據中國媒體指出，14日下午3點左右，一名來自河北的化工廠老闆急忙趕到天津港，並向指揮事故的警消人員表示，他的公司還有700噸的氰化鈉存放在發生爆炸的瑞海國際物流倉庫裡，但一行人前往現場後卻發現，地板已經被炸出一個大洞，而且滿地是存放氫化鈉鐵桶的碎片。但天津市官員15日上午召開記者會時，卻對此事一問三不知。
